AMD shared details on the RDNA 3 architecture which will be used to support the Radeon RX7000 graphics cards.
The new architecture, as reported, will allow the GPU to operate at a higher frequency. The frequency of current Navi GPUs is already well above 2 GHz. Some reach frequencies exceedingly high at 2.8 GHz. It is possible that some new generation GPUs can conquer the 3GHz boundary out of the box. This is quite impressive. It is unknown how high the frequencies of new GPUs will go.
AMD claimed that the new architecture would offer enhanced ray-tracing capabilities. We don’t know what they will contain, but we can expect better performance overall and optimization to minimize drawdowns when the effects are activated in games.
The company confirmed its support for the AV1 codec and DisplayPort 2.0 interface. 5nm process technology was also supported. It includes advanced GPU packaging, graphics pipeline optimizations, next-generation Infinity Cache, and power efficiency that is more than half of RDNA 2.
However, it remains controversial to have data about the configuration of new GPUs. AMD has not yet commented on the matter, and rumors continue to change.
